Take this sinking boat and point it home

Time shifted again, moving in rings rippling out, catching things in its swirl. I think I stepped off the path to look at something, but, like in the hotel, I can’t see the way back. A darkness inks into the cracks and everything starts echoing. Every face is just a variation of 30 base faces, endlessly reused. The songs know the secret and the songs are telling everyone.

The feeling is like the feeling is like is like the wings just explode like a drag chute in the wind of time. Ironic that the wings are protection, something to slow me down because I am always flying. Slinky sine wave of senses spirals sideways vibrate stop collapse together like cymbals like symbols like something I think he’s in love with her.

How could I forget?

Someone on the GeeksOn forum reminded me that I had watched CQ a few weeks ago. I failed to meticulously record it here. Anyone who enjoys watching Jeremy Davies do that Jeremy Davies thing should check out “CQ”. He does it for the *whole movie*! Go into it knowing nothing about the movie for maximum potency.

The Fall

Tarsem’s “The Cell” was a gorgeous but irreparably flawed film. I gave him a second chance with his latest work, “The Fall.” It evoked the delightful and self-aware storytelling of The Princess Bride and combined it with a palette of color and cinematography you might see in an Ang Lee film. The little girl seemed to have wandered in from a Guillermo del Toro movie and was awkwardly wonderful. Apparently, Lee Pace (Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies) is best suited to surreal projects and he really shone here. Now I will definitely have to go back and revisit Pushing Daisies.

Visiting Burque

I returned yesterday from a visit to the enchanted realm of New Mexico. My bosses, who are also my friends and insist I refer to them as such ;), wanted me to see the new office building and to discuss some of our big current projects. They essentially pay me to be Drey and I make cool things for them, resulting in probably the best work situation I could ask for. I do regularly talk with them on the phone, but it is great to reconnect face to face a few times a year.

I had been back last December, but this time around felt a lot different. I felt like I was still in Austin and had just sent a serviceable hologram of myself on the plane. It took a few days to shake the dissonance, but I never stopped feeling like a stranger. Ghosts haunted every street corner and layers of emotional data augmented every interaction.

This has nothing to do with my friends or Albuquerque, but I just didn’t want to be there for very long. I felt like in order to fit into that realm and feel at ease I would need to morph into some old version of myself, a proposition I found horrific. Although there were major changes in the worlds of all of my friends, my version of Albuquerque remained the same.

It really is true: You can’t go home again.

Poor Man’s Shepherd’s Pie

Okay, this is technically not shepherd’s pie as it uses chicken instead of beef or lamb. But still.

Here’s what you need:
1 can of Amy’s Organic Southwestern Vegetable Soup
1 pre-cooked rotisserie chicken
1 package of pre-made mashed potatoes

1. Cut up some of the chicken and mix it into the soup.
2. Heat up the soup.
3. Heat up enough mashed potatoes to cover the surface area of your soup bowl.
4. Dollop the potatoes over the soup.
5. Enjoy!
6. Thank Drey for inventing such a quick and delicious meal.

RSS Feed Readers

It looks like the default RSS feed from my site does not include images. So if you read this via a feed reader, you won’t be able to see the Dream Job webcomic (or any other images or photos). I’ll see if there is some kind of plugin I can use to remedy that.

Tears in Rain

Just watched Blade Runner: The Final Cut in hi def. It was like seeing it for the first time. I wanted to just lean out and lick the rain off the Tyrell Corporation building.

Boyz n tha Hood

I witnessed a shooting across the street from my apartment. Me and six other witnesses had to go downtown to give our statements to homicide detectives. Had I known I was about to witness a crime, I would have paid closer attention to the make and model of the getaway vehicle and what everyone was wearing. I got to draw a map and illustrate how it all went down. But for the most part I got to experience all the boring hours in between the interesting scenes you see on cop shows. I kicked myself for forgetting my phone. For once something interesting was happening and I couldn’t give an account.

The case was turned over to homicide because the victim wasn’t holding up too well at the hospital. I don’t know if he lived. I guess I have to check the news like everyone else.

Also, fuck you, bad guys.
